Pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections including chronic bronchitis and sinusitis. Urinary tract infections. Sexually tranmitted diseases. Skin infections. Other infections, such as ophthalmic infections, rickettsial infections, psittacosis, brucellosis (in combination with streptomycin), cholera, bubonic plague, louse and tick-borne relapsing fever, tularaemia, glanders, meliodosis, chloroquine-resistant falciparum malaria and acute intestinal amoebiasis (as an alternative to amoebicides). Alternative drug in the treatment of leptospirosis, gas gangrene and tetanus. Prophylaxis in following conditions: Malaria, scrub typhus, travellers' diarrhoea, leptospirosis. 

Hypersensitivity to any tetracyclines. Pregnancy, lactation. Children under 12 years. SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Hepatic impairment. Photosensitivity. Microbiological overgrowth. When treating venereal disease where syphilis is suspected (monthly serological tests required). Infections caused by a beta-haemolytic streptococci should be treated for at least 10 days. INTERACTIONS: Antacids, mineral supplements, barbiturates, carbamazepine, phenytoin, penicillin, anticoagulants, alcohol, oral contraceptives. ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS: GI disturbances, oesophagitis and oesophageal ulceration, photosensitivity. Superinfections. Benign intracranial hypertension (withdraw). Abnormal hepatic function, skin reactions (maculopapular and erythematous rash, exfoliative dermatitis), blood dyscrasias/abnormalities, discolouration of thyroid tissue. Hypersensitivity reactions: urticaria, angioneurotic oedmema, anaphylaxis, anaphylactoid purpura, serum sickness, pericarditis and exacerbation of systemic lupus erythematosus. 

Adult Dose : Usually, 200 mg with food or fluid on the first day, then 100 - 200 mg daily. Malaria prophylaxis: 100mg daily, starting one to two days before travel to malarial areas. Continue daily treatment during travel in the malarial area and for four weeks after leaving the area. STD, louse- and tick-borne relapsing fever and prophylactic doses, refer to Summary of Product Characteristics. Vibramycin should be taken with lots of water in a standing or sitting position, well before retiring for bed. Child dose : Contraindicated.
